Last night the LEWIS Media Centre was more than chuffed to host the annual Paul Foot Award for Campaigning Journalism 2007, on behalf of Private Eye magazine.
Ian Hislop, editor, compeered the evening with characteristic quick wit. Seven journos were shortlisted for the Award, but in the end the judges decided to split the award between two. In Hislop’s words "the Judges had a very difficult choice. So we took a leaf out of the Prime Minister’s book and decided not to make it". So the winners are (drum roll please) David Leigh and Rob Evans of the Guardian and Deborah Wain of the Doncaster Free Press.
The evening was the first event held in the Media Centre’s newly revamped ‘The Spin Bar’, which now boasts a permanent display of Private Eye memorabilia. If you’re passing, I’m sure Danielle would love to show you around!
